Drawing units

As part of my last units as a student teacher, I had 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders focus on drawing. Third graders drew from a still life. Fourth graders drew architectural landscapes, and fifth graders completed self-portraits.

Here are some of my favs:

Firing lots of clay

Over the past couple of weeks, we have had much of our art classroom devoted to FCAT testing. Mrs. Salesses is now finishing up firing the glazed cartouches from our 2nd grade classes.

Over the course of this project, students were involved in planning and executing multiple steps and processes. Students went from tracing paper and finding hieroglyphs on a handout to molding a clay cartouches based off of information from the famed Rosetta Stone.

I feel really good with introducing The Rosetta Stone to students because it's such an important artifact in human history. This was one of the big, main units that I designed myself, so I am very proud of how much students retained and enjoyed learning about Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics and The Rosetta Stone. Remember that you can always learn more from the glog I made that has a lot of other links to further info and a longer video from The History Channel. It's posted on this blog at  http://trailblazingartstars.blogspot.com/2012/04/ancient-egyptian-hieroglyphics-on.html
